songbird devcamp over!
devcamp is…. over. wow. what a weekend. i know i’m exhausted.
we had about 15-20ish developers come by on saturday, and another 6 or 7 come by on sunday. aside from the wifi hiccups saturday morning, and gregg finding a box staple in his lasagna (ugh. sorry gregg), i think it was a big success.
there was hacking (w00t. at least 4 extensions got significant development work done). there was socialising. there was beer. oh boy there was lots of beer. tons of food too.
t’was great to meet the me.dium guys, the foxsaver guys, fabricio (the xspf player guy who totally got us a Cmd-Q patch for Mac, yay!), JB the VLC guy, and everybody else i’m forgetting to recall because i’m a little buzzed.
many thanks to the birders who came and helped answer people’s questions, and lead the sessions on saturday.
and one last
we’ll have to definitely do this again.

SHDH: Getting Songbird to sing on OpenSolaris
Contrary to much popular opinion, I’m not actually employed at Songbird to work on porting it to OpenSolaris… so I haven’t had any time to really work on it at all. Fortunately, next weekend looks free, and coincides nicely with SuperHappyDevHouse, yay!
So with that, I’m planning to be at SHDH 22 next weekend Jan. 5th… if anyone in the SF Bay Area wants to meetup to hack on getting Songbird running on OpenSolaris, t’would be grand. If you’re not in the area, we should try and coordinate via IRC. I know there are at least 3 people (Triskelios, Ken, & dynamicproxy) who have given this a shot already - so let’s try and coordinate efforts and get this thing singing.

a party in 783 frames (78.3 seconds)
we had a party to celebrate Yukon’s 40th birthday last night. i’d been playing around with my new webcam (Quickcam Orbit MP, which aside from pan/tilt functionality - seems to work great under Solaris). i forgot i’d left it on and it was taking a shot every 30 seconds.
this morning i grabbed a copy of swftools, which also built just fine under Solaris and whipped up this following basic flash movie with the 783 frames the webcam took last night.
(i used jpeg2swf and set a rate of 10fps, and yes - it’ll loop around…)
the party started at 4pm, so most people were out on the back porch while we were grilling and drinking. as the night came in and things cooled down we headed in doors.
