Blatter launches fresh series of blasts

Blatter rags on Rooney

my favourite quote: “I wouldn’t say you have to beat him…but maybe a little”

urgh. shut up Blatter. I’ve often thought you should be beaten.

in all seriousness, though, some of his recent comments - though provokingly spoken, do have some truth to them. large clubs are getting larger. though, on the other hand, i would point at the Premiership and look at the examples of Everton from last year, and Charlton from this year. they’re doing great… yes, Chelsea may sweep the title again. but the fight for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th, is too close to call.

england loses 4-1

please somebody shoot me.

or better yet, shoot David James

(p.s.: this should not be construed as an actual death threat of any kind. there are plenty of other people that are worthy of bullets more than David James…..)

red bull gives you wiiiiiiings…

Having watched the highlights of the ManU, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea matches, I see a pattern emerging…

wingers are the new black.

Look at the new Premiership teams of today. ManU is increasingly being defined by Ronaldo and Rooney (playing on the left). Arsenal is defined by Pires, Ljungberg, and Van Persie. Chelsea has Joe Cole, Shawn Wright-Phillips, and Robben. The out and out solo run up the centre is fast becoming a rarity. When was the last time you saw Scholesy, or even Henry or Ruud come juking up through the centre to shoot straight on into the goal? It still happens, but you don’t see it as often anymore. Premiership defences are becoming better and better, and are closing down that centre pathway. Instead you see the balls coming down the side wings before cutting back into the centre for a shot.

Just a random note… not saying that one style of play is better than the other. I have to say though that Ljungberg’s cross into Van Persie’s fake/pass to Fabregas was beautiful, and that’s something that even this ManU fan can appreciate.

g’bye l’il nev

looks like Phil Neville has joined the Toffees… sigh. I actually quite liked Phil.. certainly more than I like Gary. At least P.Neville was more versatile. He’s a good solid player, definitely someone I’d like to have as a utility sub on the bench - but at least now he’ll get some good solid first team football.

Please, can we just sign Michael Ballack already? Forget Essien. The kid wants Chelsea. Let him go to Chelsea. Get Ballack.

I say dump Saha, Kleberson, and Bellion. Sign Ballack, and for god’s sakes…just go get Owen already. He wants to come back to England - nobody else seems to want him except Newcastle (and who are we kidding… think Owen would choose Newcastle over ManU???), and I hear he’s available for the cheap low price of 10 mil.

Convert Alan Smith to midfield, and you’ve got a great attacking midfielder in the mould of Scholesy - except rumour has it Alan Smith can actually tackle someone properly. :-P That leaves your strike force as Rooney, Van Nistelrooy, Owen, and OLE!

Ole ole…. ole ole…

sorry. can’t help it. I love the guy. Hands down one of the classiest footballers around.

Could you imagine that team:

Goalie: Van der Sar

Backline: Heinze, Ferdinand, Silvestre, Neville

Mid: Keane, Smith, Giggs, Ronaldo, Scholes, Ballack, Park

Up front: Rooney, Ruud, Owen, Ole, Rossi

toss in Kieran Richardson as a super-sub, and you’ve got a pretty competitive team.

a yellow bowyer

brief context: Lee Bowyer, a oft-prone-to-violent-tendencies football player for Newcastle United a few years ago was acquitted of attacking an Asian student. he was talking to Birmingham City (another team), but in the end decided not to join Birmingham City because he was afraid of Asians ganging up on him and beating him up in Birmingham.

I’m serious…. go read for yourself.

I don’t even know what to say… I mean… Lee… come on. If we wanted to beat you up, we would totally send a giant robot (that’s what Asians do, after all…don’t you read manga?) to kick your ass. More to the point, don’t you think the Asians in Newcastle would have beaten you up by now if we cared?

‘But when he spoke to Steve [the Birmingham manager] right at the start, his first question was `what about the big Asian population in Birmingham?”

fa cup

oh man… manu vs. arsenal in the FA cup final. can it possibly get any better than this? i was psyched to see liverpool make it through to the Champions League semifinals… and then dismayed to realise it would be chelsea they would be playing. oh well. at least this guarantees an English team will be in the final. i hope, against all odds, that it will be liverpool though.

but back to the FA cup final…. oh man. the tension and intensity of that game is going to be off the charts. neither manu nor arsenal have any other trophies to claim this year, so the FA cup is IT.

anyone wanna come go down to The Brit and watch it with me? (either Cupertino or Almaden/San Jose). the game is gonna rock, i promise. :-)

manu commentary

Untitled

the only link i can think to give… but i was listening to the BBC radio commentary of the game, and by far the best commentary of the game was when the announcer, criticising Drogba’s dive, said

announcer 1: “Drogba gets a 6.9 for artistic merit.” announcer 2: “well… Drogba doesn’t look too happy…” announcer 2: “doesn’t seem like he likes the 6.9″ announcer 1: “well, it’s out of 7!!”

Random ramblings…

Poorna and I got a late night soymilk at our favourite breakfast joint which happens to be open 24h a couple of days ago, when we worked till 2am (concalls with MPK can be a bitch from Beijing). It was really nice walking home, as for once, the streets were empty and deserted. We saw a couple making out, a bunch of taxi drivers standing around shooting the breeze, and had a nice hot glass of soy milk.

At the restaurant, while waiting for the soy milk we saw a pretty average couple sitting down waiting for their own order. The waitress brought out a Budweiser and a soy milk. Poorna and I both assumed the Bud was for the guy, and the soy milk for the girl. Boy, we were wrong. :-P Just goes to show… don’t have preconceived notions when going to a different culture. :)

Poorna and I went for Sichuan hot pot a couple of nights ago with my dad. This was actually our first substantial meal after coming back from Qufu, and it was great. Coming from a whole weekend of eating relatively bland repetitive food, it was awesome to just start a fire in my mouth with some crazy hot Sichuan food. We did the half-half veggie/bone stock, and just dumped in tons of veggies and meat. My dad probably went overboard in ordering food, but hey, we loved it and ate almost all of it.

(and yes, I think my digestive system is still feeling it)

It’s a trippy feeling when, after having stuffed really spicy food in your mouth for about an hour, your mouth starts to get numb, and really cool (as in temperature cool). It’s almost like an anesthetic…. it’s very soothing. Until you think about it, and realise you’ve probably destroyed a lot of the tastebuds/nerve endings on your tongue. :-D

I went for Korean BBQ last night with my dad (since Poorna wasn’t around, we went all out meat crazy). It was amazing….really great food. This was by far the largest Korean BBQ restaurant I’ve ever been to… with the really hot charcoal grills instead of gas, which in my opinion, really does lend itself to a better flavour. Oh yeah, and we went shopping at Hong Qiao again, where I bought a ridiculous amount of stuff ($10 for a pair of trekking poles, woohoo!)

Someone who will remain nameless (and no, it’s not Poorna this time, and no, it’s not me) got diarrhea last night….. from a mooncake….. on the Mid-Autumn “Moon” Festival. I find this hilarious…

and last but not least, how can I not mention Rooney in his spectacular debut for ManU. a hat trick in an unbelievable 6-2 win over Fenerbahce. this kid is amazing!

and while we’re on football, my condolences to my SEED mentor whose team lost to Olympiakos.
