SHDH: Getting Songbird to sing on OpenSolaris

Thursday, Dec 27. 2007  –  Category: OpenSolaris, Songbird

Contrary to much popular opinion, I’m not actually employed at Songbird to work on porting it to OpenSolaris… so I haven’t had any time to really work on it at all. Fortunately, next weekend looks free, and coincides nicely with SuperHappyDevHouse, yay!

So with that, I’m planning to be at SHDH 22 next weekend Jan. 5th… if anyone in the SF Bay Area wants to meetup to hack on getting Songbird running on OpenSolaris, t’would be grand. If you’re not in the area, we should try and coordinate via IRC. I know there are at least 3 people (Triskelios, Ken, & dynamicproxy) who have given this a shot already - so let’s try and coordinate efforts and get this thing singing.

I lost power supply at home last night, and was kicked off the network. The power supply was restored hours later, by which time I was already asleep.

I’m in Bangalore, India, and my time zone is +530 GMT

And on Jan 5, I’m travelling. I’m attending a friend’s wedding, and won’t have internet access at that time.

But superhappydevhouse seems so interesting, I’ll do my best to get connected at that time.

Incidentally, I’d met triskelios on IRC during the recent opensolaris gathering, but later fell asleep during the night and didn’t get in touch with him again.

Making time for such stuff is an interesting challenge for me, since I’m a volunteer sysadmin by day (I’ve opted to not be developer for about a year or so starting Sept 07)
