Deskbar SWAN handlers

Wednesday, Apr 4. 2007  –  Category: OpenSolaris, Sun

I wrote a couple of Deskbar handlers that I find incredibly useful in my day to day use at work on the SWAN. The first, Monaco simply adds a handler to open a bugID on Monaco. The second, NameX, does a query against the namex database to quickly lookup a user in the employee database to get their extension.

Hope you went through legal review before posting these… code that reveals the name of internal Sun servers doesn’t seem like the smartest thing to be making available to the whole world :)

We already publish internal machine names in other various places on opensolaris.org, so it’s fine.

Hi Stephen, I use LDAP (via ldapclient) inside Sun for looking up names and office numbers and such. It has a lot more fields available and it has a very fast response time. If you’re interested, I can post the shell aliases I use to turn ldapclient into a better namex program.
