Solaris 10 Update 1 (s10u1) MD5 sums

Thursday, Dec 22. 2005  –  Category: OpenSolaris

Thought this might be of use to people downloading the ISOs… here are the md5sums from our internal repository. I believe they should match the ones up for public download, but the only one I’ve verified that with is the s10u1 SPARC DVD ISO.

    Stephen,

Thank you for sharing that information. I was suprised that the md5 sums are not included on the public website.

I also wanted to ask a question related to automated installations via jumpstart: Is it possible to configure jumpstart to use the ISO images via NFS in lieu of the standard directory structure similar to what is already available via kickstart/PXE for x86 hosts?

I am guessing there could be after taking the x86.miniroot and pxegrub off of the CDs and configuring your DHCP server appropriately?

    Thanks,

    Joe Thykattil

  2. Stephen Lau Says:

Hi Joe, I believe you can mount the ISO images via lofi, and then configure jumpstart to point to the lofi-mounts.. cheers, steve

My md5sum of the SPARC dvd matches yours: 3993081fd5d8cde9c065f5ff584a8d17

I ask myself why Sun isn’t able to publish these md5sums togehther with the downloads.

    Best wishes, Chris

I just re-checked my logs of the irc channel when I posted the md5s for the Sparc .zip chunks. Seems that there was an off-by-one error in transcription to the above.

    Here’s what I posted: 14:45 (sol-10-u1-companion-ga-iso.zip) = 25646fdaa03fd08508d1ca5692c2c7ef 14:45 (sol-10-u1-ga-sparc-dvd-iso-a.zip) = c69f82621210189edbc8ccf5711ea820 14:45 (sol-10-u1-ga-sparc-dvd-iso-b.zip) = b829e1809134a1e9753abaab0db4ca26 14:45 (sol-10-u1-ga-sparc-dvd-iso-c.zip) = 082dc48956e3d4a89a837ca172826061 14:45 (sol-10-u1-ga-sparc-dvd-iso-d.zip) = 9920c28f981a250f6a4cd3c4acf85091 14:45 (sol-10-u1-ga-sparc-dvd-iso-e.zip) = 5e6f7ceac0d5f0d5830438670e56fe86

  6. Beryl Says:

I have local copies of the Solaris 10 u1 x86 CD ISOs and an extracted and merged Solaris 10 u1 x86 DVD ISO, and all MD5s match yours.

  7. Dick Davies Says:

would it be possible to get md5sums on the sun download site?

the ropiness of the download server would seem to demand it.

  8. hensch Says:

    It seems like they want people to use the download tool. I downloaded OpenSolaris SPARC today and have this sums MD5 (sol-nv-b30-sparc-v1-iso.zip) = cb05a59c36dae7b315a7379c4bff5ca1 MD5 (sol-nv-b30-sparc-v2-iso.zip) = 3d2ed2f575226412f0a0aee3a0773d18 MD5 (sol-nv-b30-sparc-v3-iso.zip) = 0a16b7dec9fa6c00968e892928d8e3bf MD5 (sol-nv-b30-sparc-v4-iso.zip) = 5b1bdc93e03d841cb1ec0e29bd3775de

    hope someone got the same.

  9. Travis Says:

Thanks for these. I too was shocked that they weren’t on Sun’s website.

  10. Ben Rinaca Says:

I have downloaded the dvd parts from Sun’s website, concatenated the files, checked my md5 to match yours, but I cannot get my Enterprise 220R to boot from the dvd. After telling it ‘boot cdrom’ it says:

Bad magic number in disk label Can’t open disk label package Evaluating: boot cdrom

    Can’t open boot device

Then it continues to boot to Solaris currently installed on the hard drive. Any thoughts, anyone? I burned the DVD on my workstation to a DVD-R with Nero. I can browse the DVD on my workstation and laptop.

  11. Alan Watt Says:

I think E220R is not supported in the new Solaris 10 release. Usually SUN does not put in any bootstrap for End-Of-Life hardware. On one hand, it will push customer to upgrade to newer hardware; on the other hand, it will keep the installation media smaller with less hardware specific bootstrap. In your case, I think I would try to get Solaris 10 EA version and see if you can install on the E220R.

  12. Julian Says:

Hi. I downloaded Solaris 10 for x86 and SPARC CD images. All 8 of the checksums matched what you have there. I spent a lot of time searching the sun site for checksums because their Download FAQs page says they provide them on their download pages!

Thanks a lot for going to the trouble of publishing those. It would have been nice of sun to do so.

  13. solaris newbie Says:

Ok, so I’ve finally got some time to do R&D and I thought I would build up an x86 Solaris box (or three). I’ve never used Solaris before, although, I would assume that it is substantially similar to other _nix OS platforms. Anyway, I thought I would try and stuff some more information in my head and work with it. Problem is, I can’t even install the dang thing. I’ve tried a number of things and I think it comes down to an error putting the multi-part zip together. Is there something special I should be doing to get these files cat’ed into one .iso image? I’ve checked out the SUN FAQ’s and those mostly amount to marketing drivel.

I appologize in advance for the base nature of my query. If someone wouldn’t mind taking the time to explain this simple piece to me, I think I’d be off to the races with it. I would also be very gratefull.

    ~sd

  14. Shawn Says:

Glad to have googled this page…my md5 for the x86 DVD iso matches yours too. Thanks for posting!

  15. gmoneylove Says:

I’m having the same issue “bad magic number…” as Ben Rinaca .

    I also have a E220R, but according to http://docs.sun.com/source/817-6337/appendix-hw2.html#BBJBHDEE E220R is supported.

I have Media (DVD and CD) Sun.

The DVD ROM works fine when reading Sol 8 CD.

    Any Ideas?

I am having similar problems trying to create a bootable solaris express DVD image for either an Ultra2, Ultra80 or SunBlade2000. I can boot from a DVD image I purchased from sun, but can’t seem to create a bootable dvd image myself. I have tried using both Nero and Roxio Media creator on windows. I did read somewhere that the Ultra10 has issues with DVD-R disks?

  17. Kast Says:

I’m having the same problems with a E220R for Solaris 10..

Bad magic number in disk label Can’t open disk label package Evaluating: boot cdrom

I’ve tried a straight ISO copy and a RAW copy. no go
