batman begins
Friday, Apr 29. 2005 – Category: Quotage
Just saw the trailer for Batman Begins… wow,it looks awesome. can’t wait to see it.
On the Slashdot story about it, the following thread just absolutely cracked me up:
Anonymous Coward: “There will be lots in this movie* that doesn’t line up with the other 4 flicks, because it’s in a completely different continuity line. The director wanted everything in this movie to be believable and realistic. It’s going to be darker and more real than even the first Batman in 1989.”
Quarters (reply): “I dunno, it’s gonna be hard to be more real than a guy falling into a vat of acid, having plastic surgery done to make himself look like clown and then defacing an art museum while dancing around to Prince music….”
Anonymous Coward (reply): ” Dude, it was the late 80’s, this sort of thing happened like every day.”
Will Sargent (reply): “Seen the Michael Jackson trial recently?”

chris eccleston is an awesome dr. who.
the new dr. who is brilliant. i’m not so sure about billie piper, but i’ll give her a few more episodes before i pass judgement.
today’s BART commute was probably the best ever thanks to dr. who.
oh, and i’ve had two three people take me up on the TiVo offer, so i’m down to 2 1 more if anybody is interested.
tivolicious!

tivo just sent out a nice little email to all Tivo rewards members (i.e.: people who have referred other people into getting a Tivo)… they’re letting us get up to 5 140 hour Tivo’s for free with a 12 month gift subscription (costs $155).
sweet. so for the price of one year’s worth of service, i get a free 140hour tivo.
rock on.
i just ordered 1. (free shipping, too!)
anyone else want a tivo? i can order 4, 3, 2, 1 more… let me know ASAP…
my, what a stressful life
Friday, Apr 22. 2005 – Category: Pets
I just got back from a lunch-time walk with Isis around our neighbourhood, whereupon she walked into the kitchen and pointedly sat and stared at the cabinet where I keep her treats.
I walked in, put her leash away and sat on the couch to eat some lunch and watch the morning news courtesy of Tivo before heading back up to the study (I love working from home).
She ran over, got my attention by putting her paws on my lap, and then ran back to the kitchen and pointedly sat and stared at the cabinet again (I’ve been teaching her to sit before I give her any treats, and she’s starting to get the idea now).
So I finally went over and gave her a treat, which always cracks me up. She’s always so full of energy, she always tries to jump up and grab the treat out of my hand, but she’s starting to realise I won’t give it to her until she sits (and stays seated) and I bring the treat to her. So now she sits, furiously wiping our kitchen floor with her tail which is wagging like crazy, and you can see her visibly restraining herself and all of her energy (her butt twitches as she tries to stay seated)… all this for a doggie treat.
After lunch, we came back up to the study where she hopped up on the futon, walked around in a circle 7 times, and heaved a huge sigh, and then plopped herself down and is now lying upside down fast asleep.
What a tiring life she must lead…
i’m sore all over…. last night’s ultimate game was intense. we got utterly schooled 6-2, 6-4 by the first team we played. but we fought hard to pull back 7-3, 6-8, 7-4 to beat the second team.
i’m really enjoying this league. aside from the fact that every limb is sore. including my left arm. go figure.
time to put the board away
Tuesday, Apr 19. 2005 – Category: Musings
after a great season, i think it’s time to go get the board waxed up, sealed up, and put away in the bag to wait out another lonely 8 months.
i went to sugar bowl for an impromptu spur of the moment day trip with jaime and margaret after wendy got called into a massive surgery all night and day.
we were expecting a warm spring skiing day, but it was actually quite windy. the sun came out at noon though, and the snow was a little slushy, but still definitely ridable. the consistency let me take some tougher slopes and push through some great carves down the disney nose. i even tried my first few jumps in ages (i stopped jumping when jesse broke his wrist :-P)
sigh. i had a great season riding this year… wendy improved noticably, and i had a great time just getting more comfortable riding down the blacks. oh well. bye bye board. see you in 8 months.
oh man… manu vs. arsenal in the FA cup final. can it possibly get any better than this? i was psyched to see liverpool make it through to the Champions League semifinals… and then dismayed to realise it would be chelsea they would be playing. oh well. at least this guarantees an English team will be in the final. i hope, against all odds, that it will be liverpool though.
but back to the FA cup final…. oh man. the tension and intensity of that game is going to be off the charts. neither manu nor arsenal have any other trophies to claim this year, so the FA cup is IT.
anyone wanna come go down to The Brit and watch it with me? (either Cupertino or Almaden/San Jose). the game is gonna rock, i promise.

i often like to just set my music player on my laptop to just play all my songs randomly… which often results in weird genre shifts.
witness my most recent 4 tracks: Jay-Z to Frank Sinatra to U2 to Ella Fitzgerald.
bizarre.
china proposes tech. alliance with india
Monday, Apr 11. 2005 – Category: Musings
Wired News: China, India: Rule Global Tech?
“Cooperation is just like two pagodas, one hardware and one software,” Wen said. “Combined, we can take the leadership position in the world. When the particular day comes, it will signify the coming of the Asian century of the IT industry”
Interesting article over at Wired on how the Chinese Premier is proposing an alliance of sorts with India to marry Chinese hardware expertise with Indian software expertise.
A marriage of two ostensibly second-world countries with some of the world’s largest resources pools at their command (both natural resources as well as labour resources) could produce some pretty amazing stuff. I really think Asia, between countries like India, China, and South Korea, is going to be an amazing new world IT power.
Wendy and I have talked casually about moving to Asia after her program finishes… either China, or possibly Taiwan (though, by the time she finishes, Taiwan may just be China :-P). The growth opportunities over there are incredible..
