when is swap not swap?
Thursday, Aug 12. 2004 – Category: Sun
i find it very unfortunate that the same partition type used for Solaris UFS partitions shows up as ‘Linux swap’ when booted into Linux.
i also find it very unfortunate that the Linux installer asked me if i wanted to format the invalid swap partition it so fortunately found for me.
what an unfortunate evening…

Erik made me do it.

You are techno!
What kind of techno music are you?

well, not really. but he’s the one i’ll blame if my boss asks me where 2 minutes of my afternoon was spent…
haven’t blogged in a while, but haven’t had much to blog about really.
first up, some good links:
- Everyday Photography (found from Dan Lacher’s blog at b.s.c). this is a really cool photography site…the guy just takes well… everyday photos of everyday objects. neat to see things like bubblewrap from a different perspective.
- for everyone that i’ve been pimping Solaris 10 onto, Bryan Cantrill (one of the guys on the Dtrace team) wrote a good blog entry entitled Demo’ing DTrace. it’s ostensibly a tutorial for us wise and all-knowing Sun engineers to demo DTrace to the ignorant heathens out there. that being said, even Sun has some unknowing heathens within (yes, that’s a link to myself) who could use some DTrace help themselves. it’s a great quick one pager (well…3 really, it’s quite a long post by Bryan) tutorial to DTrace. there are, no doubt, more thorough DTrace tutorials out there, but if you’ve only got 5-10 minutes, read it. it’s well worth the time.
links aside, what else have i been up to? (besides increasing shareholder value, that is). playing a ridiculous amount of frisbee… we of course had our customary tuesday & thursday noon-time games where i continue to get my ass handed to me on a silver platter as i desperately try to keep up with everyone else who all seem to be improving, while i continue to launch discs into the wrong zip code. tuesday afternoon, my manager gave me 4 mini-frisbees. great fun ensued for the next 10 minutes as poorna and i attempted to master the art of wrist-flicking a mini disc so it will fly straight and true down our hallways. ah…fun times…good times… even with the bloody lip i had afterwards thanks to poorna’s unique ability to make a disc home in on my face.
night frisbee on wednesday was great… got to play with some people who don’t make it out to our tu/thu games like my dentists (a.k.a. my sister and zac). some people have improved insanely since last i saw them play. the night ended with a somewhat perplexing 7 cones, instead of the 8 i set out (to mark the endzones).
i went back yesterday morning to the field to try and find the missing 8th cone… and i found it…. in the far corner of the field…. missing the top of the cone. somewhere out there is a very stupid coyote with no tastebuds, and severe indigestion.
